Dubai & Abu Dhabi Government Job Application Guide: CVs, Portals & Hiring Process
Choose the correct government careers portal, read the exact vacancy and submit a truthful, role-specific application. Dubai, Abu Dhabi and federal employers have distinct routes and eligibility rules.
Find the official route for the employer
The UAE Government’s jobs directory links to federal, Abu Dhabi and Dubai government job portals. Start there or on the hiring entity’s own careers page. Do not assume that one account or document upload applies to every entity. Dubai Careers advertises roles across participating Dubai entities. The Abu Dhabi government and federal routes are separate; follow the current official directory to the relevant portal rather than relying on an old application link.
Confirm the employer named on the vacancy. A semi-government company, contractor or university may advertise on its own site instead. A role performed inside a government project is not automatically a civil-service post. The vacancy’s own nationality, qualification, experience, location and closing-date terms decide whether an application is appropriate.
| Target | Where to check | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai government entity | Dubai Careers and the entity’s own site | Entity, grade or level, eligibility, attachments and deadline |
| Abu Dhabi government entity | Official UAE jobs directory to the current Abu Dhabi route | Whether the vacancy is an Abu Dhabi government post or a separate employer |
| Federal government entity | Official UAE jobs directory to the federal portal | Federal role requirements and permitted applicant group |
Read nationality and credential conditions before tailoring the CV
Some openings are restricted to UAE nationals or to a defined programme; others may consider residents or international applicants. Do not infer eligibility from the organisation’s general careers page. Read the exact vacancy and, if unclear, use the portal’s official support channel. The UAE Government job-search guide distinguishes government portals and also points to Nafis for Emirati private-sector opportunities. Nafis is not an interchangeable portal for every federal or local-government vacancy.
For a regulated occupation, confirm whether the job requires a licence, recognition or attested qualification. The vacancy and relevant authority determine that requirement. Do not place passport numbers, Emirates ID numbers, family-book references or document scans in a widely circulated CV unless the legitimate application channel specifically requests them. Upload sensitive records in the appropriate protected portal field.
Show the work the vacancy actually asks for
- Map the role. Mark essential qualification, function, grade, language, stakeholder and technical requirements in the advertisement.
- Use clear sections. Give a concise profile, work history, education and relevant credentials. Include dates, employers, locations and accurate job titles.
- Prove scope. Describe services delivered, systems or policies used, stakeholders managed and a result you can substantiate. Avoid confidential figures and fabricated achievements.
- Check the portal preview. If the portal extracts details from a CV, review the resulting fields and correct errors before submission. There is no evidence that every government employer uses the same ATS or automatically rejects one design.
- Follow attachment instructions. A portal may ask for a CV, certificates or other documents at different stages. Supply only what the specific vacancy requests.
For example, a procurement applicant might say: “Maintained a supplier evaluation register for a public-service procurement team and documented clarifications against approved criteria.” Add contract values, tender outcomes or compliance claims only if they are true and disclosable. Labeeb’s professional CV writing can help structure this evidence; it does not influence a government hiring decision.
Submit, record and follow up without assuming a fixed timeline
- Open the current official vacancy and save its reference number and closing date.
- Create or update the required portal profile using accurate details.
- Tailor the CV and any written answers to the advertised role; complete mandatory fields and upload requested evidence.
- Review the application preview, submit and save the confirmation or reference number.
- Use the portal’s published status or communication channel for follow-up. Keep applying to other suitable roles while a decision is pending.
Screening, assessment and interview steps vary by entity and vacancy. A submitted application is not evidence of shortlisting. Do not pay someone who claims to guarantee a government job, advance a portal status or secure a permit. For a more Dubai-specific walkthrough, see our Dubai government application guide.
Prepare for the specific application stage
If the CV does not clearly show the advertised experience, consider CV writing. If you need a repeatable vacancy and submission process, see job application support. If an interview is confirmed, interview coaching can help you prepare truthful examples. Labeeb can assist with the documents and preparation within its service scope. We do not recruit for government employers, submit applications without an agreed service scope, promise shortlisting or guarantee an outcome.
