Format rules UAE universities publish
Each university sets its own thesis format, and several publish it only to enrolled students. What the public documents say:
- University of Sharjah: Times New Roman 12 point, double line spacing, all margins 1 inch; page-number position is optional but must be consistent.
- Ajman University: 12-point font (Garamond or Arial highly recommended), line spacing from 1.5 to double, 100 gsm A4 printed on one side, a 40 mm left margin for binding and at least 20 mm elsewhere.
- University of Dubai, PhD: single-sided A4, 1-inch margins, Times New Roman 12, double spacing for the main text and single for references. The handbook gives conflicting spacing for the abstract, so confirm it with your supervisor.
- Zayed University: a thesis is not cleared for final release and printing until it fully conforms to the Deanship’s preparation guidelines, and a non-conforming thesis can be returned, which can delay graduation clearance.
- UAEU, Khalifa University and AUS: the detailed format guides sit on student portals that need a login, so work from the version your college gives you.
- Dubai branch campuses: Birmingham Dubai and Heriot-Watt Dubai follow their home universities’ rules. For research theses, Birmingham recommends a clear sans-serif font such as Arial at 12 point, double spacing and a binding margin of at least 3 cm; Heriot-Watt recommends Times New Roman 12 with one-and-a-half spacing. Taught-dissertation formats at Birmingham, Heriot-Watt, Middlesex, Curtin and UOWD are set in programme guidance behind student logins.
