How to Write a Perfect University Assignment in the UAE

There is no universal “perfect” assignment or guaranteed grade. Use your own brief and marking rubric to plan an original argument, document sources, check the required format and revise before submitting.

First step

Make the assignment brief your source of truth

Before writing, highlight the question, command word, required evidence, length, submission format, citation style, deadline and marking criteria. A reflective essay, case analysis and quantitative report cannot use one fixed structure. If the brief is unclear, ask the instructor or programme office. Official APA Style sample-paper guidance expressly tells students to follow their instructor’s or institution’s different or additional requirements.

Turn the rubric into a short planning table. For each criterion, write what evidence your assignment will show and where the reader will find it. If one criterion has no answer, revise the outline before drafting paragraphs.

Brief asks for Planning question Evidence to prepare
Compare What two or more approaches must be compared, and on which criteria? Sources that support each approach and a clear basis of comparison
Evaluate What strengths, limits and alternative explanations matter? Relevant studies, assumptions and a reasoned judgement
Apply How does a concept explain the given case or data? Case facts, method and a traceable link from evidence to conclusion
Research

Find sources you can actually verify

  1. Start with readings and databases named in the course, then search for current primary or peer-reviewed material as appropriate.
  2. Record the full bibliographic details, page or section, main claim and any limitations while reading.
  3. Separate what a source says from your interpretation. Do not cite a paper you have not opened or use a generated reference without checking it.
  4. Match each major claim in your outline to evidence. Remove claims that cannot be supported or mark them as a question to investigate.

Some assignments call for data analysis; others do not. Choose a method because the research question and brief require it, not because an article says every postgraduate paper needs SPSS, NVivo or Excel. If you need help planning a legitimate analysis, see our statistical analysis consultation.

Draft

Write the argument, then make its logic visible

Give the reader a clear question and claim, use headings where the brief permits, and build paragraphs around one point at a time. A useful paragraph introduces the point, presents evidence, explains how that evidence bears on the question, and acknowledges a limitation or competing account when relevant. This is a drafting aid, not a marking formula.

Example: Instead of “remote work improves productivity,” write a narrower claim such as “in the case study, reduced travel time may have improved reported focus, but the survey cannot establish whether output changed.” Then cite the case evidence and explain the limitation. Your own assignment needs its own data and conclusion.

Write a conclusion that answers the assigned question within the evidence you actually discussed. Avoid adding new sources or claims that the body has not supported.

Integrity and format

Check citations, originality and the actual submission rules

Use the citation system required by the course. If APA 7 is specified, its official paper-format guide and reference examples are better authorities than a generic “APA or Harvard” checklist. If the course specifies another style, follow that guide instead. Check that quotations, paraphrases, figures and reused ideas have the necessary attribution.

A “Turnitin-clean” result is not an academic standard. Turnitin says its similarity report identifies matching text and does not decide plagiarism; a low score does not prove integrity and a high score does not automatically prove misconduct. Read individual matches, fix attribution problems and follow your institution’s policy. If AI tools are permitted, follow the course’s usage and disclosure rules. Our UAE and GCC AI-policy guide can help you locate published examples, but your own programme’s rules govern.

Final pass

A practical pre-submission checklist

  1. Answer every part of the question and map the draft back to the rubric.
  2. Check that each factual claim and borrowed idea has a verifiable source.
  3. Read aloud for unclear sentences, repeated points and unsupported leaps.
  4. Check word count, file type, headings, figures, reference list and deadline against the brief.
  5. Submit through the official course channel and retain the receipt.
