Format rules that decide submission in Saudi Arabia
Saudi universities publish their own thesis manuals, and they differ on spacing, fonts, margins and abstract length. Four examples:
- King Saud University: A4 white paper, one side only, double spacing; a 3.5 cm margin on the right in Arabic copies (on the left in foreign-language copies) and 2.5 cm elsewhere. A clear Arabic abstract of no more than 700 words; a PhD thesis also attaches a translation of the abstract into English or another modern European language.
- KFUPM: double spacing in the body, acknowledgments and abstracts; minimum margins of 3.75 cm on the left and 2.5 cm on the other sides. The abstract is written in English and Arabic on the abstract forms, one page at most: up to 350 words for a PhD dissertation and 150 for a master’s thesis.
- King Khalid University: 1.5 line spacing; Traditional Arabic 16 for Arabic and Times New Roman 14 for English; Arabic and English abstracts of no more than 300 words each, with the English abstract placed straight after the Arabic one.
- KAUST: A4, 12-point text, a 40 mm left margin and 25 mm elsewhere, double spacing; the abstract is page 2 and limited to 350 words.
