What Statistical Help Is Allowed on a GCC Thesis?
What university policies actually say about getting help with the statistics in a master’s or PhD thesis. Every statement below is taken from the university’s own published text and linked, so you can check it yourself. Your university’s current code and your supervisor decide your case.
The short answer: the policies below allow statistical consultation, teaching and help with interpreting results, and some universities provide it free to their own students. They require that help to be acknowledged and, in some cases, approved in advance. None of them allows someone else to write the thesis or submit work prepared by another person as your own. If your university is not listed, its own academic integrity code applies, and your supervisor is the person to ask.
What the policies say
American University of Sharjah: help must be acknowledged
The AUS Graduate Catalog 2025–2026 lists Inappropriate Collaboration as an academic violation. It covers working with another person, or using a generative AI tool, to develop, organise or revise a project without acknowledging that help. The catalog says rules on tutors, editing and outside help vary between courses, and that students must get explicit faculty approval in advance. It also prohibits submitting any material prepared by, or bought from, another person or company.
King Saud University: the thesis must be free of language errors
The Deanship of Graduate Studies’ general rules for writing theses require the thesis to be written correctly and free of language errors. A thesis written in English, or another approved language, must include a clear Arabic abstract. The rules warn that a large number of typing errors can, in some cases, lead to the thesis being rejected, and they tell students to acknowledge the work of others they draw on.

King Saud University: free support that includes graduate students
The Researcher Support and Services Unit at the Deanship of Scientific Research lists similarity checking, research consultations, language editing and journal selection. Its FAQ says the services are free and open to all KSU members, including graduate students, researchers and faculty. Statistical analysis is not listed as a separate service, so ask the unit what its research consultations cover.
Qatar University: a statistics unit that serves students
Qatar University’s Statistical Consulting Unit says its help is free for QU faculty, staff and students on academic research projects. It offers collaboration meetings, walk-in consulting and short courses, and it helps researchers design experiments, analyse and plot data, run statistical software, interpret results and explain statistical ideas to non-statisticians.
University of Georgia: advice yes, chapters no, advisor involved
UGA’s Statistical Consulting Center gives advice on study design, discusses methods and software, and offers interpretation of results. It states that it “does not write or format thesis or dissertation chapters”. Student clients must bring their major professor or research advisor to the first meeting, and help beyond the free one-hour consultation needs the advisor’s knowledge and approval.

UConn: acknowledgment, or authorship when the contribution is substantive
UConn’s Statistical Consulting Services says most work starts as a short-term consultation, typically no more than about 15 student-hours. For limited-scope help without a substantive intellectual contribution, it asks to be acknowledged. Where its consultants contribute substantively to design, analytic strategy, modelling, interpretation or the manuscript, authorship should be considered according to disciplinary norms.
